How Parents Can Create a Piano Nook for Better Practice at Home
I was a teacher in student's homes, and I have taught online lessons. I have gotten some good insight into the practice spaces of my students.
There were many bad home setups: upright pianos that weren't tuned or serviced, uprights against windows or in basements; keyboards in busy living rooms; desks without a stand or bench; etc.
I have seen beautiful pianos in dark, unused rooms and keyboards covered with laundry, school homework and art supplies.
It was a wake up call that my parents and students were not following my instructions on how to have a home properly set up. So I decided to write a more detailed explanation of what you should do, why, and how it should be done.
You may have heard the term "nook" used in interior design. It is a way to create a comfortable, inviting living space. My piano students and parents use the term "practice nook" because I want them to create the same feeling. A place where you feel comfortable, relaxed, and warm.
